Seeking to better understand how “insiders” and “outsiders” interact in social groups to build a more inclusive and empathic world
How can we mitigate the impact of insider-outsider dynamics to reduce intergroup stigma, bias, and conflict?
The Laboratory for Intergroup Relations and the Social Mind at Columbia University investigates structural and psychological factors that lead people to experience insider/outsider dynamics. We design and test interventions to lessen the impact of these dynamics on a broad range of groups. We aim to use insights from our research to design inclusive environments that allow members of diverse social groups to thrive and succeed.
