Faculty explore innovations in teaching methods
One of Purdie-Vaughn's studies noted that when negative and shaming language in academic probation letters was changed to express compassion and understanding toward the students' situations, the percentage of students who either got off or stayed on probation went from 49 percent to 80 percent, while the percentage who were suspended or placed on provisional registration decreased from 52 percent to 19 percent.
